An excellent introduction to the superb Jack Clayton film. Frayling discusses the Henry James source material and its fortunes with the critics (including the Freudian interpretation by Edmund Wilson that influenced the eventual screenplay), the play by William Archibald that became a foundation for the film, the film itself with a lot of informative detail about its production, and a short chapter on its release. The writing of the screenplay is an especially interesting section as Frayling goes into detail about who wrote what parts, which parts were revised, and Truman Capotes major contribution to its final, excellent form.

All in all, an excellent guide to those who love the Henry James novella or the wonderful movie.
